Here's a quick guide to give you some new ideas on how to make revision more affective, by finding new ways to learn!
Key Problems:
Students find one way to learn and stick with it and it gets tedious and boring
If their one way of learning works well, they could end up sacrificing even better ways to learn because they found something that works

Key Solutions:
1] Studying the same way becomes boring to some students
This is super common. A lot of students find revision boring. Sometimes it's because it's the content, the subject. Sometimes it's because the way they revise is boring. So try this test: Ask your child to sit down for 10 minutes to revise. See how they revise. Chances are, they just opened their exercise book and read it. No wonder it's dull!
The Fix: Get them to try as many new ways as possible. Here's a few suggestions
Type the topics into YouTube and watch the videos
Study with a friend
Read their exercise book
Get a copy of the textbook to go through
Get a revision guide
Go through past papers
Do Maths quizzes
Practise on Corbett Maths
Use flashcards
2] Their way is already affective... but they could find an even better way!
Something that plagues us all without us even realising it, is we find comfort in something that works, it works well enough, so we stick to it. It's like staying in a job we like because the pay is good, but we could move to another place and the pay could be great. It's like finding an exercise in the gym that works well, but we could try something different and stimulate more growth and get more bang for our buck.
The Fix: What if they tried a new revision technique and it doubled how effective their revision session is? What if this new technique is more interesting and engaging... because they're getting more out of it..therefore they can do it for longer...
So more effective and they can do it for longer. Wins all around!
Just before you go, I would love to invite you to our free Skool community. This is a platform where I keep my Maths essentials course. Here's the link to join us below. When you create an account please use your child's name, your email and please ensure the photo you use for the profile picture is not of your child. Most of our lot take a picture of a pet...or the floor!
(We also have our paid live classes inside the group, you're welcome to join one for free!)
